The Help I Wish I’d Had—Now It's Yours

When I sold my first book, Wife Interrupted, I was 23 and still deep in grief. I’d been widowed a year earlier and found myself writing something wildly bold and raw — a memoir about heartbreak, healing, and being a little bit unhinged (in the best way).

The problem? I had no idea how to actually write a book proposal, or what happened after you signed the deal. And emotionally? I was flying blind.

I've learnt a lot since then – and I'm only too happy to share it.

Writing a book – especially a personal one – is so much more than just word count goals. It’s a rollercoaster. It takes guts, and courage, and most of us are juggling it around family, work and other commitments.

it's a lot – and everyone needs a cheerleader.

Every time one of  my writers strikes a book deal –which happens wonderfully often – I find myself in tears, because I know how much it means to them.

I'd love to help you to get there too.

love Amy x

I'm an Open Book!

My writers are always shocked by how much I 'give away' about how to get a book deal. It's taken me 20 years to amass this knowledge — and these shortcuts. But the world needs more amazing stories out there. (Plus, this is a premium product—I want to make it worth it.)

🌀 Personalised, practical book coaching — based on where you're at and what you’re writing

🧠 Expert editorial guidance – from someone who’s edited or published nearly 100 books, and topped the Amazon charts.

💗 Emotional accountability – for the days you’re staring at the blinking cursor wondering what was I thinking

🌟 Strategic publishing support – whether you’re going for a traditional deal or self-publishing

❌ Kick-arse boundaries: wondering how to write about a sensitive situation or protect other people in your story? Amy is an expert.

😍 Gentle, honest feedback – a pep talk on hand when you need it.

📙 Insider access to the publishing world – I’m insanely generous with my contacts, tips and behind-the-scenes know-how.

Who This is For:

You don’t need a manuscript or even a fully formed idea. Our LightWriter community welcomes wannabe writers at ever stage of the book writing journey, through brainstorming, writing, pitching, publishing and beyond.

You might be:

- Writing a memoir, narrative nonfiction, self-help or personal development

- Holding a brilliant idea and no idea where to start-

- Drowning in drafts and desperate for clarity

- Pitching agents or publishers and unsure what’s landing

- Emotionally exhausted and wishing someone would just say, “You’ve got this — and here’s how.”

- A busy parent or juggling a full time job, and wondering how to find the space to write a book – or to make it profitable.

- Excited, nervous, doubtful, or a mixture of all three. Every emotion is welcome here.

From the start, I felt incredibly safe in Amy's hands. Her support, guidance and wisdom took my writing from a mere idea to a book that I am truly proud of. She nurtured and developed the writer within me, gave me permission to feel and be authentic, and was there every step of the way—from writing to publication.

Frequently asked questions:

How does a session work? If this is your first mentoring session, you'll discuss your project and what you hope to achieve by sharing your story, plus any questions, challenges or areas of advice you want guidance on. By the end of one session, you'll have actionable solutions.

What type of books does this work for? Any kind of non-fiction content, including self-help guides, memoirs, business books and lifestyle guides, which cover a wide range of topics. Our authors have also written fiction novels inspired by their life experiences (a great option if your story is especially sensitive). And, then there's the option to turn your story into a podcast, blog or newsletter, which you can monetise. There's an option for everyone.

How should I prepare for a session? If you've already started writing, it's useful to email Amy a sample before your session (maximum of 3000 words). At least 24 hours before your session, email your work to info@amymolloy.com.au.

Do I need to have a certain amount written? Not at all! Amy works with people at all stages of the creative projects, whether they have zero words written or they're ready to get a book deal or promote a product.

How many sessions do you recommend? For some people, one session is enough, especially if you're at the end of writing and looking to pitch/publish. However, a lot of our writers value ongoing support. That's why I created my LightWriter Package. A set of four sessions you can stagger over weeks/month — for a discount of 30 per cent off the usual cost.

I want to get a book deal — can you help? A lot of students have gone onto sign book deals, after working with me on their book proposals. You can also check out our online course, The Book Writing Remedy, which includes advice on pitching and a downloadable book proposal template. Click here to find out more.

Can you edit my writing? As with my other program, you can sign up to the Chapter Editing Service. Mentoring students get priority access.

I've got another question! Feel free to reach out to me on info@amymolloy.com.au to see if it's right for you! Or, just trust your gut and book a sesh!

"Amy is a world-class editor who has a gift for editing with ruthless compassion! As a sharp editor, she not only helped to improve my writing, but her kindness and generosity always left me feeling cared for, encouraged, and motivated. Brilliant at what she does, but even better for who she is, writing and producing my children’s picture book series with Amy’s mentorship was a dream."

'Amy is a unique combination of talented editor, savvy writer and generous soul. This mix ensures that your story gets told in a way that feels engaging, snappy, humorous, raw and vulnerable all at once. Writing a book can be a lonely experience. With Amy as your editor, you won’t feel alone. She really cares about you and your story—this is evident every step of the way.'

"I loved working with Amy. My publishing deal wouldn't have been possible without her support, guidance and belief in my story — a very tough story to tell. Since then, I've worked with Amy on my second book, a collaboration coming out this year. I recommend her to everyone."
