Public Writing Workshop: Somebody Believes You Have a Story Worth Sharing

Public Writing Workshop: Somebody Believes You Have a Story Worth Sharing

Whether it’s book writing, blogging, articles, about sections, social media, podcast scripts or more - how can you share your story, publicly, in a way that raises your profile, fulfils a purpose or promotes a cause but protects yourself?

Is there a story from your past you have a burning desire to share? Do you have a book inside you? How can you find the words to tell the ‘why’ behind your career path. How can you use social media as a memoir without making yourself vulnerable?

We are all storytellers. Every social media caption, every ‘about’ section, every blog post and every conversation we have in a coffee shop is an opportunity to share our story in a way that heals us or triggers us. In an era where oversharing is trendy, how can you find the balance between authentic honesty and conscious censorship? And, in the process, even turn storytelling into a new career path.

That’s what this workshop is all about … and, this time, we can get to meet in real life!

*no professional writing experience necessary.

Join international journalist, editor and Hay House author Amy Molloy for this unique one-day workshop on the South Coast of Sydney. Based on the techniques taught in her popular online public writing courses, an intimate group will gather at a beautifully healing private home to discover how to tell their story, publicly, without sacrificing their mental health. With numbers capped at a small group, every attendee will receive personal mentoring from Amy and, by the end of the day, be equipped with a story synopsis, proposal and press release that can be used to pitch their story to a public platform which suits them. *If you have all / part of your story already written then bring it along for live editing. Equally, it's perfect to arrive with nothing but a spark of an idea (or simply a desire to share another side of yourself).

What the workshop covers:

  • The Starting Point: Identifying the story you wish to share, and the impact that you would like it to make on your life, as the storyteller, and the people who read it.

  • Attracting your Audience: How to choose the best medium to share your story. This includes books, blogs, articles and video content. Which will have the most impact for you?

  • Structuring your Story. How to write about an emotional topic in a way that is also clear and constructive, including the common pitfalls of non-fiction writing.

  • Ritualised Writing. Creating ceremony around your writing practise, to support yourself as you revisit life-changing experiences.

  • Honesty & Self-Censorship: How much do you need to share to be authentic, when to hold back and when to fill in the gaps? Why less is more.

  • Industry Insight. Pitching to editors, finding a book publisher, the pillars of gentle self-promotion. And, how to protect yourself from rejection.

  • Your Rights as a Storyteller. Debunking myths around paid storytelling, and the rights you have as a writer to say no, and respect your own boundaries.

  • A Pitch Package. Together, we will produce a proposal, synopsis and press release that can be used to control your message so you feel at peace whenever and wherever you press ‘post’

What’s included:

  • Your choice of coffee / chai tea on arrival

  • Healthy brunch snacks

  • A goody bag  (valued at $75+)

  • Five hours of mentoring (usually valued at $1050)

  • A discount code for any online course in Amy’s portfolio

  • Industry-standard material that will equip you with the tools to share your story.

More than ever, ‘public writing’ is a skill we should learn. So that when it’s time to take our stage - whether it’s a book, blog or social media site - we feel strong in our words and safe in our hearts.

Once paid, registration fees for the Public Writing Workshop and other events are non-refundable. In the event that you cannot attend due to unforeseen circumstances, we may offer the opportunity to transfer your ticket to an online course (of the same value or less) in the host’s portfolio.
